221 POBI, ROBERT CITY OF WINDOWS
Minotaur Books 2019 1250293944 / 9781250293947 First Edition, First Printing. HARDCOVER in Brand New jacket.
Minotaur Books 8/6/2019. New hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. in Brand New jacket. Store pick: Who is Dr. Lucas Page? He is a new reluctant hero for fans of Michael Bennett, Lincoln Rhymes, and Amos Decker. Reluctant because he quit the FBI over 10 years ago after an ‘event' which literally cost him an arm and a leg and also an eye. Hero because after being pressured to rejoin the FBI in a search for a serial sniper who is killing law enforcement he uses his special spatial recognition and mathematical skills to uncover clues and eventually find the killer. It is unusual to have outstanding writing, meaningful character development, sarcasm and humor, nonstop action, and current political commentary all rolled into one book, but this not to be missed book has it all. -Nancy M., store volunteer (seconded by Brent, store volunteer)

But since the Prophets disappeared over 100 years ago, a radical group called the Witnesses has sprung up, and they are intent on ridding the world of these Graces. Unbeknownst to most of the world, though, the Prophets foretold this Age of Darkness, but also gave hope that a Last Prophet would come along and possibly stop it. Now five young adults from different backgrounds, some Graced and some not, each with his or her own agenda, must play their parts and make or break the world. 226 QUINN, KATE HUNTRESS
William Morrow 2019 0062740377 / 9780062740373 PAPERBACK .
William Morrow 2/26/2019. New paperback. Ian is a battle worn world renowned journalist who has put up his pen in order to hunt Nazi war criminals, especially The Huntress who murdered his young brother. Jordan is a teenager in Boston in 1950 who has fallen in love with photography and one day hopes to travel the world as a photo journalist. Nina, Ian and Jordan, who you will get to know intimately, are the heart of one of the best novels of historical fiction I have read in years. From Russia and the little known story of one of the most successful bombing squadrons, to post war Boston where no one wants to be reminded of the war, you will be mesmerized by the stories of how the war and its aftermath affected those in it and around it. Quinn weaves their stories intricately together as they all end up in Boston on the trail of The Huntress. It is a thriller, a piece of history and a love story all combined into one book that you don’t want to miss. -Nancy M., store volunteer

William Morrow 2019 0062889168 / 9780062889164 PAPERBACK .
William Morrow 9/17/2019. New paperback. Store pick: This is literally a stay-up late, can't put it down action thriller. Peter Sutherland is an FBI agent whose career is tainted by the sins of his father, but guided by his own strong sense of right and wrong. When he receives a panic-stricken call from a young woman named Rose on a secret FBI hot line, he has no idea of the challenges he will soon be facing, or how the decisions he must make will test his moral codes. Sutherland is an approachable and honest character, not imbibed by the author with superhuman strengths or abilities. The story is intricate and fast-paced, yet still feels legitimate and real. 235 RICHARDS, EMILIE FAMILY OF STRANGERS
MIRA 2019 0778307859 / 9780778307853 PAPERBACK .
MIRA 6/25/2019. New paperback. Store pick: I really enjoyed this book. The family dynamics were fascinating and led to quickly becoming engaged. Ryan is an interesting individual, she is someone who forged a path and developed a lifestyle counter to that of her family and how she was raised. A surprise phone call from her much older sister she rarely hears from sets her on a journey she can never imagine. Part of it she is uniquely qualified for, finding the circumstances of a crime when she has a cold case podcast is not a huge undertaking. Showing up and keeping her six and eight year old nieces for an indeterminate time is something else all together. There is plenty of family interaction and a former flame is involved. Plenty of action and a complex plot. -Jackie W., store volunteer

This book follows Blanche who is the daughter of Chuck Varner, and man who opened fire in a mall before killing himself, to advance his 'cause'. Blanche has been able to channel her energies and has placed her past in a very neatly and completely sealed box. What happens when the seals of the box are cracked unfolds in this book. 239 RIVERS, SUSAN SECOND MRS. HOCKADAY
Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill 2017 1616207361 / 9781616207366 PAPERBACK .
Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill 11/14/2017. New paperback. Store pick: This is an amazing book, I simply loved everything about it. Any fan of historical fiction, novels about human failings and dialog that is almost poetic should read this book. The depiction of the civil war on a very personal level to one woman is stirring and hard to take in. The book is a series of letters to and from various family members and by then end of the first 30 pages you feel invested in every member involved. In some ways it is a revisit to the time when letters were the form of communication that existed and what a picture they could paint. It is hard to believe this is a debut novel, the writing is wonderful. -Jackie W., store volunteer (seconded by Melissa O., store employee)

240 ROBERTS, NORA COME SUNDOWN
St. Martin's Griffin 2019 1250123097 / 9781250123091 PAPERBACK .
St. Martin's Griffin 3/26/2019. New paperback. Store pick: A saga spanning almost three generations of a family and their journey from a small ranch to a ranching and resort dynasty. The bucolic natural setting is disrupted by the presence of pure evil. Roberts does an amazing job of making the behavior of an evil doer real enough to give you chills. The segues between the generations are smooth and though you have a main character in Bo, daughter who now runs the resort, her brothers are prominent and you will engage in them as well. Don't confuse this with a romance novel, there is plenty of romance, but this is pure thriller! -Jackie W., store employee
