Store pick: Many of us get so busy with our day-to-day lives and all the stuff we 'have' to do that we lose sight of what's most important to us in life. Many times we jump straight to 'how will I fit that in' without first even considering whether it's something meaningful for us to be doing. We forget we even have the option of saying 'No'. I loved this book so much I'm considering starting a bookclub around it. If you're interested in participating, just let me know. -Jill Hendrix, store owner.

Mulholland Books 7/9/2019. New hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. in Brand New jacket. Store pick: I read the concept of The Chain before I started the book and was tempted not to read something so apparently implausible. Then I started reading. Before I realized it, I was captured in The Chain and it wouldn't let go. A harrowing tale that tests the limits of what a person can and can't and will and won't do. And when it is your child that has been kidnapped and is in the grip of The Chain, you find yourself capable of doing things you could never conceive. This is a fast paced, edgy thriller that will keep you going until the very last. Is it possible to break The Chain? -Brent B., store volunteer

Ecco 2019 0062742809 / 9780062742803 PAPERBACK .
Ecco 4/16/2019. New paperback. Store pick: This is a thriller of the highest order. While the story and setting is unlike your typical action thriller, it is one that grabs hold of you and simply won't let go. For anyone who enjoys a Lee Child or Nelson DeMille read, this is one that should be on your 'must read' list. The pacing of the story and development of Rice Moore, the main character are such that you will have a hard time putting this one down. The book is less about plot twists and surprises than it is the gradual unfolding of a complex and compelling character who is both approachable and enigmatic. It is one of those that will leave you wishing for more when you finish it, and hoping that maybe we haven't heard the last of Rice Moore and his journey. I rate this one at the top of my scale: 5/5. -Brent B., store volunteer (seconded by Nancy M.)

He is forced to get his act together and do it quickly while he still has his job because not only was he at the manís house the night he died, but he beat him up and canít remember anything else other than he was pretty sure he was alive when he left. Racial strife, dirty cops and evil perpetrated by a mysterious secret order for over 150 years all go together to make this one of the best stories with a southern setting that I have read since I read the last Greg Isles. -Nancy M., store volunteer Signed by author.

Pamela Dorman Books 2019 0399562486 / 9780399562488 HARDCOVER in Brand New jacket.
Pamela Dorman Books 10/8/2019. New hardcover. in Brand New jacket. Releases 10/8/19. Pre-order today! Store pick: What a book!! A sweeping tale about life in a small coal mining town in Kentucky. The book centers on the Roosevelt works program that included establishing traveling libraries. Six very different women unite with a singular goal, deliver books to families in very rural areas, using mules and horses as a means of transportation. Primarily for the $28 per month salary. What transpires in a journey filled with love, growth, discomfort, tragedy, and virtually unmatched determination. Alice is a new bride from England who thought she would live in a large cosmopolitan city, Margery is a local from the worst family imaginable. Izzy is there under duress from her Mother who has dreams of impressing Mrs. Roosevelt. Beth is a local who has dreams of moving far beyond Kentucky. Kathleen is a widow who needs a purpose and Sophia is a proud woman of color. You will be captured by each of these women and wish you could have them in your life. The conditions and prejudices of this time and place are not glossed over and provide a picture of just how powerless a woman can be. The historical aspect of the book is an interesting glimpse at a government program that was useful and successful. -Jackie W., store volunteer

Putting myself in the shoes of these newly minted policeman who were not allowed to arrest white suspects or drive squad cards or even set foot in police headquarters was both demoralizing and oddly heartening. After reading Darktown there is no way to close your eyes to the legacy of racism in our police forces, yet we have come so far since that time that it gives me hope that we can work together to solve this issue once and for all. -Jill Hendrix, store owner
