Poisoned Pen Press 2017 1464208026 / 9781464208027 PAPERBACK .
Poisoned Pen Press 5/2/2017. New paperback. Store pick: Geneva Chase is a crime reporter and a good one. But to say she is flawed and damaged is an understatement. She has a problem with alcohol and a problem with men – three marriages and currently in love with a married man. She is barely holding on to the only job she could land with a small time paper in CT when a horrific crime occurs. Six people are found naked and hacked to death in a very rich and upscale community called Connor’s Landing. While the murders and the other crimes that are occurring in the town are a major part of the story Genie herself is the other part. She is tough and gutsy and in spite of all she has been through in life she is optimistic and barrels through adversity like it doesn’t exist. She tends to see the world through ‘vodka’ colored glasses but in spite of that she is also a surprisingly likeable character and I can’t wait to see more of her. -Nancy M., store volunteer

Sarah Crichton Books 2019 0374156026 / 9780374156022 First Edition, First Printing. HARDCOVER in Brand New jacket.
Sarah Crichton Books 4/16/2019. New hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. in Brand New jacket. Store pick: Wow! What a powerful story and terrific courtroom drama from a debut novelist. Kim’s background as a trial lawyer and a teenaged immigrant from Korea really brought to life the struggles the Yoo family faced trying to get to America for the sake of their daughter and made the courtroom drama so intense that you wished you were there to hear the lawyers interrogations in person. She also gave a very heartbreaking look at what parents of special needs children go through and the controversial decisions they must make every day. Miracle Creek is a remarkably written story about families and what sacrifices are made and what lies are told to try and protect those near and dear. But the lies -- which seemed harmless by themselves -- stacked up like dominoes and soon cascaded to a tragic end, a tragic end that might not have happened if just one small seemingly insignificant act or one small seemingly insignificant lie had not occurred. -Nancy M., store volunteer

Ecco 9/3/2019. New hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. in Brand New jacket. Store pick: Cold Storage is an anomoly. At least as much as a book I would best describe as a 'hilarious action thriller' could be. I love the action/suspense genre; such that if anyone proposed to me an action thriller that could be characterized as 'hilarious,' I would decline to read it. I'm sure glad I didn't do that in this case. This book is a sheer tour de force of reading entertainment. How David Koepp mixes the absurd with the serious is true genius. Read this book. You will not regret it - even if you put in in the guilty pleasure category, you'll walk away with the only guilt being that you liked this one as much as you did! -Brent B., store reader

Arthur A. Levine Books 2015 0545798655 / 9780545798655 PAPERBACK .
Arthur A. Levine Books 4/28/2015. New paperback. Signed bookplate laid in. Store pick, recommended by Melissa: This is a different take on homosexuality. It shines a light on the fact that even when we accept others' differences, even celebrate them, sometimes it can be hard to see past the 'labels' to what they really want. But as Rafe finds out, it's just as hard, if not more so, to deny something that's innately a part of you. While I wished for a different ending for Rafe, I was glad to have read this book for the perspective, if nothing else. -Melissa O., employee

Atria Books 3/4/2014. New paperback. Store pick: Ordinary Grace is a beautifully written, atmospheric novel that is both a coming-of-age story and an homage to life in a small Midwestern town in the 1960s. It is a quiet, simple story with a huge message and wonderfully developed characters. While there is a murder, the identity of the perpetrator is secondary to how the residents and family members are affected by all the events of the summer of 1961. -Nancy M., store volunteer Edgar Award Winner for Best Novel.

They meet many people on their journey, including both the noble and the dishonorable. The main character, Odie, learns about trust, love, and forgiveness. In fact, forgiveness is a theme throughout the novel that Kreuger explores. Penguin Books 2019 0525506330 / 9780525506331 PAPERBACK .
Penguin Books 6/4/2019. New paperback. Store pick: A Stranger in the House is another fantastic domestic thriller from Shari Lapena. It seems to be a fairly straight forward and predictable mystery at first: wives with secrets, husbands with secrets, creepy neighbor with secrets and a convenient case of amnesia. Or, is it? At first, after her accident in a seedy part of town she would never have visited and then the discovery of a murder victim nearby, it seems that Karen is probably faking her amnesia. Then other things make us think perhaps she is really suffering from amnesia, because no one can be that good of an actress. Karen lies to the police, her husband Tom lies to the police and their neighbor Brigid lies to the police. But, they all lie for different reasons and about different things. As time goes by it becomes fairly obvious to the reader what happened and then…the totally unexpected. --Nancy M., store volunteer

St. Martin's Press 9/3/2019. New hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. in Brand New jacket. Store pick: Conspiracy theorists beware! You may not sleep again after reading this one. It takes courage to write a 'world domination' book, but more than that, it takes incredible skill to deliver a story that enfolds the reader in a non-stop thrill ride of suspense. FBI Special Agent James Mason discovers what appears to be a plot to smuggle biological agents across the border. As he starts digging deeper, he finds dark forces opposing him who will stop at nothing to prevent their secret from being revealed. His relentless pursuit continues despite losing those closest to him as well as his FBI badge. The depravity of his enemy will make your skin crawl, and keep you glued to this one until the very end praying he will be successful in his quest. Flatiron 3/19/2019. New hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. in Brand New jacket. Store pick: Move over Jack Reacher, Nikki Griffin is on the job. Like Reacher, Nikki doesn’t go looking for trouble. She owns a bookstore and loves to help customers find just the right book and loves to banter about book trivia with the groups that meet at her store. However, she has a dark past and can’t just stand by and watch women be abused when she is smart enough, strong enough and fierce enough to convince the men in their lives that she is their worst nightmare and they need to get lost, permanently. Her reputation as a fixer has gotten around and when she reluctantly accepts a job to follow a woman suspected of corporate espionage, Nikki encounters some truly dangerous men. Murder and mayhem follow Nikki as she attempts to unravel a mystery beyond her comprehension and get justice for a women who she could not protect... Wednesday Books 2019 1250145449 / 9781250145444 HARDCOVER in Brand New jacket.
Wednesday Books 9/17/2019. New hardcover. in Brand New jacket. Releases 9/17/19. Pre-order today! Store pick: Wow! If I could give this one higher than a 10 I would. I rarely read YA or Dystopian but I am sure glad I read this one. The description of a mashup of Hand Maid’s Tale and Lord of the Flies with girls instead of boys is right on. But, it is much more than that. Tierney has always been different and while she doesn’t actively rebel against the patriarchal society that rules the area she lives in she also doesn’t embrace it like most of the other girls do. She hopes to just get through her grace year and come back and work in the fields (not a treasured position like getting a veil). The book paints almost as bad a picture of what women do to each other as it does of what men do to women. The writing is lyrical and yet Liggett doesn’t mince words when she describes the violence that takes place during the grace year and as part of the county’s patriarchal society. Tierney is a powerful main character who suffers immensely in order to stay true to what she believes. There were many times in the book that I wished she had taken a different path for her own sake but the fact that she didn’t take the easy way out and that she understood the need to act together was a great lesson. I couldn’t envision how Liggett would be able to keep to the storyline and yet still show us hope for the future but she managed it beautifully. This is one of the few books that I would like to read again and again. -Nancy M., store volunteer
