101 HANNAH, KRISTIN GREAT ALONE: A NOVEL
St. Martin's Griffin 2019 1250229537 / 9781250229533 PAPERBACK .
St. Martin's Griffin 9/24/2019. New paperback. Releases 9/24/19. Pre-order today! Store pick: The Allbright family has barely managed to survive since Ernt returned from a prisoner of war camp in Viet Nam. 13 year old Leni loves her mother Cora unconditionally and she tries really hard to love her father but she doesn’t understand why her mother accepts the abuse and the cruelty her father dishes out when one of ‘his moods’ comes on. In a last attempt to fit into society in a post Viet Nam era the family moves to what is at the time the wilderness of Alaska. They are totally unprepared for what they are about to endure but with the help of the few neighbors they have, they learn to overcome the harshest conditions imaginable. But, they are still struggling to be the loving family they were before Viet Nam, as dark cruel winters cause Ernt’s PTSD to get worse every year. The Great Alone is a beautifully written, remarkable story of what one family can endure and a story of the strength of the human body and the human spirit. It is tragic at times, heartbreaking at times, and beautiful at times. It is a story of cruel love, young love, and above all a mother’s love. It is the ultimate story of survival. -Nancy M., store volunteer (seconded by Linda H., store volunteer, and Melissa O., store employee)

Finally, 4 of the 5 return but they all have a different story about what happened to Alice. Aaron Falk returns after his debut in The Dry to solve this mystery and resolve some personal issues he has been dealing with. Once again the Australian landscape was very much a main character of the book. 113 HAWKINS, PAULA GIRL ON THE TRAIN
Riverhead Books 2016 1594634025 / 9781594634024 PAPERBACK Good.
Riverhead Books 7/12/2016. Used paperback. Good. Store pick: When the main character is an admitted alcoholic and liar without much going for her I would normally not give the book much of a chance. But, Rachel’s fascination with making up stories about the couple who lived in a house she saw from her train window twice a day reminded me of Hitchcock’s Rear Window and knowing how much I loved it I kept reading. And, boy am I glad I did. The Girl on the Train is a stunning novel of psychological suspense with a host of possibly unreliable witnesses. I couldn’t wait to find out if they were all lying, or if they were just fooling themselves about what they thought happened. For all of those readers waiting for the next Gone Girl I think this is it. -Nancy M., store volunteer
