244 ROBOTHAM, MICHAEL GOOD GIRL, BAD GIRL
Scribner 2019 1982103604 / 9781982103606 First Edition, First Printing. HARDCOVER in Brand New jacket.
Scribner 7/23/2019. New hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. in Brand New jacket. Store pick: I have read and loved many Michael Robotham books in the past but it has been awhile. After listening to this one I will go back and read the ones I have missed as I had forgotten how much I enjoy his writing style and his characters. In Good Girl Bad Girl we are introduced to Dr. Cyrus Haven a forensic psychologist. He is working with the police on the murder of a teenaged girl and is also helping a friend try and understand a young girl who has been in foster care and ward of the state for years. Both Cyrus and Edie (the girl in care) have horrible experiences in their background. The difference is that Cyrus’s nightmare and his younger life were all made public but no one really knows what happened to Edie or who she really is. Cyrus was a truly interesting character and I enjoyed his interactions with the police detective who has mentored him for years and his interactions with Edie. Both cases kind of merge and we are left with some answers and a satisfactory, though surprising, ending to the murder case. But, Edie’s background is still mostly a mystery. I hope this means that this is the first in a series and Cyrus will be back to help Edie get out of care and on her way to leading a normal life. -Nancy M., store volunteer

She manages to escape after 3 days but suffered a severe brain injury and is left with only a few flashback memories of her captivity, no memory of what he looks like and only what she thinks is his name. She decides the only way to survive is to disappear until he is found. Luckily she writes under a pseudonym and very few people know her real name so she changes her appearance and using her real name of Beth Rivers she chooses what she thinks will be the perfect place to hide. Benedict, Alaska is a very small town of only 500 on an island reachable only by Ferry or plane so Beth should be safe there. However, she is totally unprepared for the harsh wildness of Alaska or the fact that Benedict is the home to lots of other quirky characters most of who are also there to hide from something or someone. The description of the surroundings and life in the wilds of Alaska as well as a town full of characters that are not all who they claim to be will keep the reader just as much on edge as Beth is. One death gets solved but the ending leaves lots and lots to be explored in future books, and I can’t wait. -Nancy M., store volunteer
