1 BOBOTIS, ANDREA LAST LIST OF MISS JUDITH KRATT
Sourcebooks Inc. 2019 1492678864 / 9781492678861 PAPERBACK .
Sourcebooks Inc. 7/9/2019. New paperback. Releases 7/9/19. Pre-order today! Author is from the Upstate. Store pick: I can't say enough good things about this book! As 75 year old Judith Kratt begins to make an inventory of the many beautiful antique items in her ancestral home many of the items bring back memories of her life in 1929 as a 13yo helping her father, Daddy Kratt, run his general store in the small upstate town of Bound, SC and watching how he, often ruthlessly, ran 'his' town and his family. The story is told beautifully through the voice of Judith going back a few years before the night in 1929, when her brother Quincy was murdered, to 1985. Judith is a wonderful, but complicated character and the perfect person to describe what life was like in the deeply segregated south at a time when cotton was king. She always speaks her mind, has trouble relating to others, likes things organized, and loves routines. She is the complete opposite of her younger sister who is truly a free spirit. As Judith makes her list and savors her memories her life suddenly changes. Her sister, Rosemary, who left town 60 years earlier the night their brother was killed and whom she has had no contact with since suddenly returns to Bound. Judith is forced to face more than just her happy memories, as the truth finally comes out about what really happened on that fateful night in 1929. The Last List of Miss Judith Kratt is a story to savor. Even though I wanted to know what happened the night Quincy died I didnít want the story of Judithís life to end. The writing is exquisite and paints a picture of a small southern town and its occupants from its hay days in the 20s to the 1980s where time has essentially stood still for many of the occupants. -Nancy M., store volunteer
