Simon & Schuster 6/7/2016. New paperback. Store pick: Even though the year is not over, I'm declaring this my favorite book of the year! Amy Snow is such an engaging character that I was hooked as soon as I met the abandoned baby. Aurelia, her savior, is known to us only through Amy's eyes, and the peeling back the layers of the feelings Amy experiences is poignant and riveting. The Victorian age of England, with all its eccentricities and class distinction is shown in a very raw form. The lack of rights and ability to better yourself if you are not the upper crust is glaring and makes the story so much more compelling. An unlikely friendship makes for a story not to be missed. -Jackie W., store volunteer
