The Dial Press 12/2/2014. New paperback. Store pick: This memoir is a beautiful but emotionally difficult read; however, anyone who has read and liked Pat Conroy will like this book. Conroy has made no secret that his previous works of fiction are based on his family history, and here we learn about his life, his parents and siblings, and the childhood destroyed by their father, Don Conroy. I was astonished to learn that his father was actually worse than the character Bull Meechum in The Great Santini, and that the author was able to forgive him. But the realm of forgiveness is a personal one, and by the end of the memoir Conroy offers enough insight to help the reader understand how this is possible. I highly recommend this to all Conroy fans. -Kathleen
