William Morrow 2018 0062105728 / 9780062105721 PAPERBACK .
William Morrow 5/29/2018. New paperback. Store pick: Joshilyn Jackson uses smart, snappy dialogue that made me laugh outloud to tell a story of racism and prejudice in a small southern town that still exists today. It is also the story of step sisters who have been competitive since their parents married when they were both 3 years old, a story about loves lost and grief and childhood joys, and a story about a town matriarch who is slowly becoming a victim of dementia . All very serious subjects which are told with wit and humor throughout. I loved listening to Birchie finally getting to tell some of the townspeople what was really on her mind, I loved Leia’s story within a story – the graphic novel and characters that she created and who made her famous. I loved her interactions with her sister Rachel and with her niece Lavender. And, I especially loved the fact that there was even a mystery and legal battle thrown in. -Nancy M., store volunteer
