361 WALKER, WENDY EMMA IN THE NIGHT
St. Martin's Press 2018 1250141427 / 9781250141422 PAPERBACK .
St. Martin's Press 8/7/2018. New paperback. Store pick: I love psychological suspense because I am fascinated by the human mind and the reasons that people think, feel or behave as they do. Emma in the Night was an intriguing look at Narcisstic Personality disorder and how Cass and Emma suffered because of it. Three years previously when they were 15 and 17 Cass and Emma mysteriously disappear. Then Cass suddenly returns alone with one desire – to find her sister Emma. The case of the girls’ disappearance had almost destroyed Dr. Abby Waters, the FBI forensic psychologist assigned to the case. She was convinced that the girls’ mother suffered, as her own mother did, from NPD. But, she could not convince anyone on her team that the mother was in any way involved. When Cass returns and starts telling the story of what happened to the two of them it seems even more apparent that Dr. Waters was wrong about their mother. But, more questions remained than were answered, especially when Emma could not be found. The twists and turns will keep you guessing until the very end and the insight into the feelings, emotions and actions of all of the characters is fascinating. -Nancy M., store volunteer

362 WALKER, WENDY NIGHT BEFORE
St. Martin's Press 2019 1250198674 / 9781250198679 HARDCOVER in Brand New jacket.
St. Martin's Press 5/14/2019. New hardcover. in Brand New jacket. Releases 5/14/19. Pre-order today! Store pick: We know Laura is missing after going out on a first date with someone she met on a dating site. At least her older sister Rosie thinks she is missing. The Night Before is told from Laura's point of view from the night before and from Rosie's from the morning after. As usual Wendy Walker’s book is filled with psychological trauma and even a series of sessions with a psychologist which add believability and insight into who Laura is. And, as usual, I couldn't stop reading, and was surprised more than once. The Night Before is a true thriller with a heavy dose of psychology you won't want to miss. -Nancy M., store volunteer

363 WARD, ANNIE BEAUTIFUL BAD
Park Row Books 2019 0778369102 / 9780778369103 HARDCOVER in Brand New jacket.
Park Row Books 3/19/2019. New hardcover. in Brand New jacket. Releases 3/19/19. Pre-order today! Store pick: Beautiful Bad opened with a police detective at the scene of a murder – but we have no idea who is murdered. More than a murder mystery it was a compelling story of the complex love between two friends and the hurt that results when their lives change. I loved reading about Maddie and Joanna’s adventures in the dangerous places they lived and played. I liked both characters (at first) and thought I understand why their friendship ended. Hidden desires, dark secrets, much manipulation, and an ultimate murder come painfully together as all lives are torn apart. Beautiful Bad was a riveting story with a surprise ending…is this a fight for survival, or something much more sinister? -Nancy M., store volunteer

367 WEIR, ANDY ARTEMIS
Crown Publishers, Inc. 2018 0553448145 / 9780553448146 PAPERBACK .
Crown Publishers, Inc. 7/3/2018. New paperback. Store pick: Andy Weir has done it again! Made me read and rave about a Science fiction book. I never read Science Fiction, nor am I a fan of Fantasy or Paranormal but I am a huge fan of Andy Weir. His wit, humor and amazing story telling ability are addictive. Artemis is a city on the Moon but it could be a city anywhere – sure you have to do things differently because of no atmosphere, etc. but basically love is love, greed is greed, smuggling is smuggling, murder is murder, no matter where it takes place. I loved the Martian but Artemis is, IMO, even better. I loved the personal interactions between the characters and I loved Jazz’s determination and her somewhat skewed sense of what is right and what is wrong. Artemis is a true adventure story with a lot of really neat science thrown in. Think a futuristic MacGyver/Mission Impossible with a young female protagonist. -Nancy M., store volunteer

371 WESTOVER, TARA EDUCATED: A MEMOIR

Random House 2/20/2018. New hardcover. in Brand New jacket. Later printing. Store pick: Not since The Glass Castle has a memoir significantly moved me like Educated has. Tara Westover’s description of her family is harsh and stark while at the same time haunting and beautiful. Her unconventional upbringing by conservative Mormon parents in Idaho is fascinating, and you will not be able to put down this book until you absorb every word. And even then it will not leave you. -Linda H., store volunteer
