261 PETRIE, NICK DRIFTER (PETER ASH, NO 1)
Putnam 2017 0735215200 / 9780735215207 PAPERBACK .
Putnam 3/7/2017. New paperback. Store pick: Peter Ash returns from his stint as a Marine in Iraq and Afghanistan physically whole but mentally a wreck. He has what he calls ‘white static’ which is a buzzing noise, and debilitating claustrophobia due to PTSD. He spends a year just roaming the wilderness and sleeping under the stars until he hears that a fellow marine under his command has committed suicide. Feeling guilty that he didn’t reach out to him when he came home Ash decides to help his widow and two young sons by repairing their house. As he starts to work on a dilapidated porch, he finds the meanest and ugliest dog he has ever seen, and a bag with lots of cash and explosives. Trying to figure out where the money came from and what the explosives were planned for means Ash must fight his imaginary demons and some very real demons. An amazingly well written thriller highly recommended for Jack Reacher fans. Fast paced, gripping, complex. An excellent book from a very talented new author! -Nancy M., store volunteer

Flatiron 7/31/2018. New paperback. Store pick: Behind Her Eyes took me totally by surprise. From the beginning I knew it was a story of a very disturbed person, but which one was the sick one? I knew something happened in the past which was driving two of the main characters and slowly I thought I was discovering the truth about the past – but boy was I wrong. A very dark and eerie psychological thriller of love and obsession that you will not be able to put down until you discover the truth. -Nancy M., store volunteer (seconded by Melissa O., store employee -- OMG, the ending!)

William Morrow 9/4/2018. New hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. in Brand New jacket. Store pick: Sarah Pinborough didn’t let us down with her second thriller. Totally different from Behind Her Eyes but every bit as thrilling, Cross Her Heart is as much character driven as it is plot driven. It is very believable, very heartbreaking and very disturbing. There are too many secrets and too many lies. It starts off slowly then rapidly goes into overdrive. It has lots of twists and turns and once again Sarah is able to pull off a stunning surprise ending. -Nancy M., store volunteer

276 RIPLEY, NATHAN FIND YOU IN THE DARK
Atria Books 2018 1501178202 / 9781501178207 First Edition, First Printing. HARDCOVER in Brand New jacket.
Atria Books 6/19/2018. New hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. in Brand New jacket. Store pick: Martin Reece is a self-made millionaire, so when he retires he has even more time to devote to his hobby – anonymously digging up the remains of the victims of serial killers who confessed to murders but not to where the bodies were buried, and telling the locations to the police. A la Dexter, Martin Reece is not your average nice guy. But, who is he hurting by doing what the police can’t do and giving closure to the families of the victims? And so what if his motives years ago didn’t start out to be so altruistic? Two people do care, however. One is a bull dog of a police detective who is sure that not only is Martin “the finder” but is also involved in more recent murders. The other one is the long silent partner of several of the serial killers and doesn’t like having his special memories disturbed. Find You in The Dark starts out slowly as a dark and twisted tale and rapidly builds to something even darker and more twisted. It is a serial killer thriller like nothing you have ever read. -Nancy M., store volunteer

277 RITTER, KRYSTEN BONFIRE
Crown Publishers, Inc. 2017 1524759848 / 9781524759841 First Edition, First Printing. HARDCOVER in Brand New jacket.
Crown Publishers, Inc. 11/7/2017. New hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. in Brand New jacket. Store pick: Abby Williams is a young attorney whose newest case takes her back to her home town of Barren, IN for the first time since she left 10 years earlier. She is supposed to be there to try and find proof that the large corporation that most of the inhabitants admire and depend on is in reality polluting the water and causing illnesses. In reality Abby is also in town to try and put the demons that have haunted her for 10 years to rest. I thoroughly enjoyed following Abby as she came to terms with the horrible childhood she had and showed that she was no longer that person. There was enough mystery about what happened to Abby’s once best friend and about what was currently happening with the young people of the town to keep you reading to the surprise ending, but the best part of the book was getting to know Abby as she was then and as she is now. -Nancy M., store volunteer

278 RIVERS, SUSAN SECOND MRS. HOCKADAY
Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill 2017 1616207361 / 9781616207366 PAPERBACK .
Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill 11/14/2017. New paperback. Store pick: This is an amazing book, I simply loved everything about it. Any fan of historical fiction, novels about human failings and dialog that is almost poetic should read this book. The depiction of the civil war on a very personal level to one woman is stirring and hard to take in. The book is a series of letters to and from various family members and by then end of the first 30 pages you feel invested in every member involved. In some ways it is a revisit to the time when letters were the form of communication that existed and what a picture they could paint. It is hard to believe this is a debut novel, the writing is wonderful. -Jackie W., store volunteer (seconded by Melissa O., store employee)

279 ROBERTS, NORA COME SUNDOWN
St. Martin's Griffin 2019 1250123097 / 9781250123091 PAPERBACK .
St. Martin's Griffin 3/26/2019. New paperback. Releases 3/26/19. Store pick, recommended by Jackie: A saga spanning almost three generations of a family and their journey from a small ranch to a ranching and resort dynasty. The bucolic natural setting is disrupted by the presence of pure evil. Roberts does an amazing job of making the behavior of an evil doer real enough to give you chills. The segues between the generations are smooth and though you have a main character in Bo, daughter who now runs the resort, her brothers are prominent and you will engage in them as well. Don't confuse this with a romance novel, there is plenty of romance, but this is pure thriller! -Jackie W., store employee
