221 MCLAUGHLIN, JAMES A. BEARSKIN
Ecco 2019 0062742809 / 9780062742803 PAPERBACK .
Ecco 4/16/2019. New paperback. Releases 4/16/19. Pre-order today! Store pick: This is a thriller of the highest order. While the story and setting is unlike your typical action thriller, it is one that grabs hold of you and simply won't let go. For anyone who enjoys a Lee Child or Nelson DeMille read, this is one that should be on your 'must read' list. The pacing of the story and development of Rice Moore, the main character are such that you will have a hard time putting this one down. The book is less about plot twists and surprises than it is the gradual unfolding of a complex and compelling character who is both approachable and enigmatic. It is one of those that will leave you wishing for more when you finish it, and hoping that maybe we haven't heard the last of Rice Moore and his journey. I rate this one at the top of my scale: 5/5. -Brent B., store volunteer (seconded by Nancy M.)

223 MCTIERNAN, DERVLA RUIN
Penguin Books 2018 0143133128 / 9780143133124 PAPERBACK .
Penguin Books 7/3/2018. New paperback. Store pick: The Ruin is a stunning debut. It is a police procedural set in Ireland that tells two stories of supposed suicides that occurred 20 years apart. Cormac Reilly caught the first case as a mere rookie. The death of the alcoholic drug addicted mother was ruled accidental and Cormac’s involvement stopped when he took 5 yo Jack, who was malnourished and obviously abused, and his 15 yo sister, Maeve, to the hospital. However, the case never left his memory as it was his first dead body and the children haunted him. 20 years later after a very successful career in Dublin, Cormac has transferred to a small station in Galway so he can be with his partner Emma. He is treated as an outcast and only given cold cases to work. This all changes when the child, Jack, now in his 20s supposedly kills himself by jumping off a bridge. Maeve, who disappeared the day Cormac took the children to the hospital comes back to Ireland and demands that the death be investigated as a murder. The next thing Cormac knows he is being ordered to investigate the death of Jack’s and Maeve’s mother from 20 years ago as a murder also. The complex plot, the seamless intertwining of stories and the dogged determination of Cormac to find the truth takes this superb crime novel on a great journey through Ireland, and on a roller coaster ride of suspense. Righting wrongs, innocence and evil are all at the heart of this well-written debut novel. -Nancy M., store volunteer

226 MEYER, MARISSA CRESS (LUNAR CHRONICLES, NO 3)
Feiwel & Friends 2015 1250007224 / 9781250007223 PAPERBACK .
Feiwel & Friends 1/27/2015. New paperback. Store pick: Cress is a shell, a Lunar who doesn't have Lunar powers, and as such was sentenced to death upon birth. But she was taken under the wing of one of Queen Levana's thaumaturges, who saw Cress's talent for all things electronic, and took Cress instead to a satellite, where she has been imprisoned for the past seven years and put to work creating a network for Queen Levana to spy on the Earthen leaders. But Cress has secret loyalties to Earthens, especially handsome, heroic ones like Captain Carswell Thorne. And of course we follow the further adventures of Lunar cyborg Cinder, Emperor Kai, Scarlet, and Lunar special operative Wolf. This book is amazing, continuing the trend of greatness I've come expect from Meyer. The characters are great, the storylines are great, there was lots of action but also enough romance. It will be a pleasure to hand this book to anyone eagerly awaiting the next installment of the Lunar Chronicles. -Melissa O., store employee

Another fast-paced futuristic story that has everything you could want from a fairy tale -- action, great characters, and a little romance. Celadon Books 2/5/2019. New hardcover. in Brand New jacket. Releases 2/5/19. Pre-order today. Store pick: Alicia Berenson has been locked in a mental hospital for the criminally insane ever since she was convicted of killing her husband 6 years earlier. She did not say a word during her trial and has not uttered a word in the 6 years since. Theo Faber is a psycho-therapist who has been interested in Alicia’s case since he first heard about it on TV. When a position comes open at The Grove, the hospital where she is incarcerated, Theo applies for the position convinced he can get Alicia to speak again. The story starts slowly as Theo tries to peel back the layers of Alicia’s life and starts gathering information from friends and relatives that might help him understand why Alicia did what she did, and allow him to get through to her somehow. As Theo patiently talks to Alicia in session after session, she seems to slowly start to respond. Then, out of the blue, we are thrown suddenly into a story that we could not have imagined and given an ending with a twist that defies belief… until you realize that the facts were there all of the time. If you are fascinated with psychology and the human mind as I am, this is a debut novel you will definitely not want to miss. -Nancy M., store volunteer

I was impressed with the story line the author created, and there was a new twist and turn on each page. Her characterizations were spot on, and I was amazed I found myself caring for some of the complicated characters. 232 MOLLOY, AIMEE PERFECT MOTHER
HarperCollins 2018 0062696807 / 9780062696809 PAPERBACK .
HarperCollins 12/31/2018. New paperback. Releases 12/31/18. Pre-order today! Store pick: It started out as a Mommy Group, fragile friendships in the making. They seem like typical modern day mothers, reading all they can and trying to follow all of the new trends and ideas in having a healthy baby and caring for a newborn. They have concerns, they have guilt, they have fear and they all have secrets. And then baby Midas is abducted and the lives of the women in the group are turned upside down. Too many past histories become lies, and then betrayals, as the women become too focused on finding this missing child while letting their personal lives fall apart. The author did an excellent job of misdirection and I fell for it hook, line and sinker. Perfect Mother is a must for fans of Big Little Lies. -Nancy M., store volunteer
