221 MAMET, DAVID CHICAGO
Custom House 2018 0062797204 / 9780062797209 PAPERBACK .
Custom House 11/13/2018. New paperback. Store pick: This period piece will take you back to the outlaw prohibition days in Chicago, and will not disappoint with well developed characters and a powerful and compelling story. Mamet is a writer 'of a style,' and challenges his readers to keep pace. In many ways reading Mamet is like watching a vintage 8mm home movie as his writing can be erratic and at times will blur at the edges or seemingly jump randomly from sequence to sequence. But like those old home movies, the images he paints with his words will have a visceral impact. Once you settle in to the cadence and phrasing, and immerse yourself in his inimitable style, you will find yourself standing alongside Mike Hodge as he lives a story of love, murder and revenge. This is a strong story well told, and I would call it a solid 4/5. -Brent, store volunteer

Little, Brown and Company 2018 0316477605 / 9780316477604 First Edition, First Printing. HARDCOVER in Brand New jacket.
Little, Brown and Company 9/11/2018. New hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. in Brand New jacket. Store pick: This lushly written story of Lucius, a young medical student forced to turn trauma surgeon at the onset of the first world war, and how that transition was made possible by the support and guidance he received from Margarete, a field nurse, will take your breath away. At once a vivid and visceral portrayal of the horrors of war and the inhumanity men can inflict on one another is at the same time a story of brotherhood, hope and kindness. The narrative brings the reader into the story and is not one that you will find easy to put down. In the midst of the war Lucius is separated from Margarete and his search for her and what has become of her following their separation will keep you on the edge of your seat to the very last. This is an outstanding book, expertly written. I was enchanted by it. -Brent B., store volunteer

230 MCCARTHY, KEVIN WOLVES OF EDEN
W.W. Norton & Company 2018 0393652041 / 9780393652048 First Edition, First Printing. HARDCOVER in Brand New jacket.
W.W. Norton & Company 11/6/2018. New hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. in Brand New jacket. Store pick: This visceral portrayal of the Indian Wars in the Powder River Valley of Montana following the Civil War is very powerful but is not for the faint of heart. Kevin McCarthy takes us on a haunting journey following the paths of two immigrant Irish brothers, both veterans of the Civil War, who are damaged physically and emotionally from their brutal experiences. The brothers re-enlist in the Army when they are unable to adjust to civilian life, only to find themselves again on the front lines of a totally different, but no less ruthlessly violent conflict. The storytelling is exceptionally well crafted, and unapologetic in the raw portrayal of man's inhumanity to man. The sensitive way that the author is able to weave hope, love and humanity into a story wrapped in such violence and cruelty delivers a novel that is deeply moving, and one that will stay with you long after you have finished the book. 231 MCCOY, SARAH MARILLA OF GREEN GABLES
William Morrow 2018 0062697714 / 9780062697714 First Edition, First Printing. HARDCOVER in Brand New jacket.
William Morrow 10/23/2018. New hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. in Brand New jacket. Store pick: Having never read Anne of Green Gables, I wasn't sure how I would react to this novel. My fears were assuaged when I immediately got hooked on the story. I can honestly say that I really liked it. Sarah McCoy does a great job establishing the characters and describing the small village of Avonlea, when Marilla and Matthew were much younger. You will feel like you are there as Marilla falls in love, loses loved ones, and faces heartbreak. McKoy also weaves in the bits of history: political unrest in Canada, the Underground Railroad, and the Civil War. A good read! -Linda H., store volunteer Signed by author.

233 MCLAUGHLIN, JAMES A. BEARSKIN
Ecco 2019 0062742809 / 9780062742803 PAPERBACK .
Ecco 4/16/2019. New paperback. Releases 4/16/19. Pre-order today! Store pick: This is a thriller of the highest order. While the story and setting is unlike your typical action thriller, it is one that grabs hold of you and simply won't let go. For anyone who enjoys a Lee Child or Nelson DeMille read, this is one that should be on your 'must read' list. The pacing of the story and development of Rice Moore, the main character are such that you will have a hard time putting this one down. The book is less about plot twists and surprises than it is the gradual unfolding of a complex and compelling character who is both approachable and enigmatic. It is one of those that will leave you wishing for more when you finish it, and hoping that maybe we haven't heard the last of Rice Moore and his journey. I rate this one at the top of my scale: 5/5. -Brent B., store volunteer (seconded by Nancy M.)

236 MCTIERNAN, DERVLA RUIN
Penguin Books 2018 0143133128 / 9780143133124 PAPERBACK .
Penguin Books 7/3/2018. New paperback. Store pick: The Ruin is a stunning debut. It is a police procedural set in Ireland that tells two stories of supposed suicides that occurred 20 years apart. Cormac Reilly caught the first case as a mere rookie. The death of the alcoholic drug addicted mother was ruled accidental and Cormac’s involvement stopped when he took 5 yo Jack, who was malnourished and obviously abused, and his 15 yo sister, Maeve, to the hospital. However, the case never left his memory as it was his first dead body and the children haunted him. 20 years later after a very successful career in Dublin, Cormac has transferred to a small station in Galway so he can be with his partner Emma. He is treated as an outcast and only given cold cases to work. This all changes when the child, Jack, now in his 20s supposedly kills himself by jumping off a bridge. Maeve, who disappeared the day Cormac took the children to the hospital comes back to Ireland and demands that the death be investigated as a murder. The next thing Cormac knows he is being ordered to investigate the death of Jack’s and Maeve’s mother from 20 years ago as a murder also. The complex plot, the seamless intertwining of stories and the dogged determination of Cormac to find the truth takes this superb crime novel on a great journey through Ireland, and on a roller coaster ride of suspense. Righting wrongs, innocence and evil are all at the heart of this well-written debut novel. -Nancy M., store volunteer

239 MEYER, MARISSA CRESS (LUNAR CHRONICLES, NO 3)
Feiwel & Friends 2015 1250007224 / 9781250007223 PAPERBACK .
Feiwel & Friends 1/27/2015. New paperback. Store pick: Cress is a shell, a Lunar who doesn't have Lunar powers, and as such was sentenced to death upon birth. But she was taken under the wing of one of Queen Levana's thaumaturges, who saw Cress's talent for all things electronic, and took Cress instead to a satellite, where she has been imprisoned for the past seven years and put to work creating a network for Queen Levana to spy on the Earthen leaders. But Cress has secret loyalties to Earthens, especially handsome, heroic ones like Captain Carswell Thorne. And of course we follow the further adventures of Lunar cyborg Cinder, Emperor Kai, Scarlet, and Lunar special operative Wolf. This book is amazing, continuing the trend of greatness I've come expect from Meyer. The characters are great, the storylines are great, there was lots of action but also enough romance. It will be a pleasure to hand this book to anyone eagerly awaiting the next installment of the Lunar Chronicles. -Melissa O., store employee

When Nova becomes a Renegade to spy on their inner workings, she and Adrian end up challenging each other's long-held beliefs about good and evil.
