Doubleday 2019 0525433759 / 9780525433750 PAPERBACK .
Doubleday 1/8/2019. New paperback. Releases 1/8/19. Pre-order today! Store pick: Alice Vega is a seriously bad-ass bounty hunter from CA who specializes in finding missing children. When 8 year old Bailey and 10 year old Kylie disappear from their mother’s car while she runs into a store, Alice is hired by the girls’ aunt to come to the small PA town to help the overworked and understaffed police. Alice immediately convinces Max Caplan (Cap) to help her. Cap is a disgraced ex-police officer who is now a PI. Not only does Vega have extraordinary martial arts skills but she also has the resources of a super hacker to get her any information she needs. Together they form a powerful team that can do things and go places the police can’t. An easy readable writing style, a great story line with a very unexpected ending, and really likeable characters who give the book an added layer of excitement and who I hope we see again make this a book you won’t want to miss. -Nancy M., store volunteer

Henery Press 2013 193838332X / 9781938383328 PAPERBACK .
Henery Press 4/30/2013. New paperback. Store pick, recommended by Nancy M.: Board Stiff is a terrific blend of mystery, humor and just enough sexual tension to make it interesting. Elliot Lisbon (Ellie) has an interesting job as the director of the prestigious Ballantyne Foundation. The story is set on an Island off the coast of SC? Hilton Head, perhaps? The mystery is believable and the culprit and motive was a surprise. The writing was sharp and witty. The characters were fun and quirky. What more could you ask for in a great cozy? I can't wait to read more about Elliot Lisbon and her quest for her private investigator's license. Fans of Susan Boyer will love it. -Nancy M., store volunteer

William Morrow 2018 0062698605 / 9780062698605 PAPERBACK .
William Morrow 9/18/2018. New paperback. Store pick: I Know You Know is framed through a series of true crime podcasts produced by Cody Swift, whose two best friends were murdered 20 years earlier, when they were just 10 years old. Cody is convinced the man who was convicted of their murders was not guilty and hopes that time will uncover facts that weren’t discovered then. Coincidentally, as the podcast starts the bones of a long missing man are discovered near the spot that the boys’ murder took place. Detective Fletcher, one of the two detectives who discovered the murdered boys 20 years earlier is given the new case. The story switches back and forth from 20 years ago to present and is told mainly from the view point of Cody, Detective Fletcher, and Jessica Paige, the mother of one of the murdered boys. Cody is vigilant in trying to find the truth, even when being threatened and told to stop. Or, does he have an ulterior motive? Jess, who has a new life with a husband and 16 yo daughter, has not told her daughter about the son she had when only 16. She has vowed to be a real mother to Erica and is riddled with guilt because of how neglectful she was as a very young mother. Or, is she riddled with guilt because she actually had something to do with harming her son? Fletcher has always been overly ambitions and has ignored procedure to accomplish what he thought was justice. But, was he a good guy who just wanted to catch the bad guy or was he corrupt? Gilly MacMillan gives us a thrilling saga that spans 20 years, a saga you are immediately pulled into. Switching back and forth from the past to the present lets you really get to know the characters and why they developed as they did. You will go from loving them to hating them and back again until you finally find out their true character and what really happened 20 years ago. -Nancy M., store volunteer

William Morrow 2016 0062476769 / 9780062476760 PAPERBACK .
William Morrow 9/6/2016. New paperback. Store pick, recommended by Nancy M.: 14 year old Zoey Maisey was a gifted pianist – a child prodigy – when a tragic accident changed her life in a way she could not imagine. She discovered that telling the truth when others lie doesn’t always lead to justice and she was convicted of a horrific crime and spent 9 months in a secure facility for what she maintains to this day was an accident. Her mother and father divorce and her father has nothing more to do with her. They move to a new town and begin their ‘second chance’ life. Three years later her mother is dead and Zoey is a suspect. Everyone’s secrets and lies are slowly revealed and Zoey realizes that sometimes you have to do wrong if it is the only way to make things right. The Perfect Girl is a beautifully written story with a heartbreaking plot. It is told from several narratives, unfolding methodically to give us a gripping and complex story… a psychological thriller… a story of second chances or maybe even third chances… a book I could not put down. -Nancy M., store volunteer

William Morrow 2018 0062691007 / 9780062691002 PAPERBACK .
William Morrow 1/30/2018. New paperback. Store pick: The story telling in this debut psychological thriller is captivating. It is the story of a mother’s anguish and desperation when her 8 year old son runs ahead on a trail on an ordinary Sunday afternoon walk in a park and vanishes. It is the story of the lead detective which is told partly in sessions he has with a psychologist because of the toll the case took on his personal life. It is a story of family and friends and secrets they have been keeping that are slowly revealed. And it is the story of how the media and the public are quick to point fingers and assign blame as shown through newspaper clippings and blog entries. But, most of all it is a story of a mother’s love and her strength and will to push everything aside and do anything to bring her son home. -Nancy M., store volunteer

It goes beyond Marie's book to include thoughts on how to make it easier on your relatives to deal with the posessions you leave behind while showing that paring down your posessions has worldwide appeal in today's stressful world. -Jill Hendrix, store owner

Custom House 2/27/2018. New hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. in Brand New jacket. Signed by the author on a tipped-in page. Store pick: This period piece will take you back to the outlaw prohibition days in Chicago, and will not disappoint with well developed characters and a powerful and compelling story. Mamet is a writer 'of a style,' and challenges his readers to keep pace. In many ways reading Mamet is like watching a vintage 8mm home movie as his writing can be erratic and at times will blur at the edges or seemingly jump randomly from sequence to sequence. But like those old home movies, the images he paints with his words will have a visceral impact. Once you settle in to the cadence and phrasing, and immerse yourself in his inimitable style, you will find yourself standing alongside Mike Hodge as he lives a story of love, murder and revenge. This is a strong story well told, and I would call it a solid 4/5. -Brent, store volunteer Signed by author.

Store pick: This lushly written story of Lucius, a young medical student forced to turn trauma surgeon at the onset of the first world war, and how that transition was made possible by the support and guidance he received from Margarete, a field nurse, will take your breath away. At once a vivid and visceral portrayal of the horrors of war and the inhumanity men can inflict on one another is at the same time a story of brotherhood, hope and kindness. The narrative brings the reader into the story and is not one that you will find easy to put down. In the midst of the war Lucius is separated from Margarete and his search for her and what has become of her following their separation will keep you on the edge of your seat to the very last. This is an outstanding book, expertly written. I was enchanted by it. -Brent B., store volunteer

W.W. Norton & Company 2018 0393652041 / 9780393652048 HARDCOVER in Brand New jacket.
W.W. Norton & Company 11/6/2018. New hardcover. in Brand New jacket. Releases 11/6/18. Pre-order today! Store pick: This visceral portrayal of the Indian Wars in the Powder River Valley of Montana following the Civil War is very powerful but is not for the faint of heart. Kevin McCarthy takes us on a haunting journey following the paths of two immigrant Irish brothers, both veterans of the Civil War, who are damaged physically and emotionally from their brutal experiences. The brothers re-enlist in the Army when they are unable to adjust to civilian life, only to find themselves again on the front lines of a totally different, but no less ruthlessly violent conflict. The storytelling is exceptionally well crafted, and unapologetic in the raw portrayal of man's inhumanity to man. The sensitive way that the author is able to weave hope, love and humanity into a story wrapped in such violence and cruelty delivers a novel that is deeply moving, and one that will stay with you long after you have finished the book. William Morrow 10/23/2018. New hardcover. in Brand New jacket. Releases 10/23/18. Pre-order today! Store pick: Having never read Anne of Green Gables, I wasn't sure how I would react to this novel. My fears were assuaged when I immediately got hooked on the story. I can honestly say that I really liked it. Sarah McCoy does a great job establishing the characters and describing the small village of Avonlea, when Marilla and Matthew were much younger. You will feel like you are there as Marilla falls in love, loses loved ones, and faces heartbreak. McKoy also weaves in the bits of history: political unrest in Canada, the Underground Railroad, and the Civil War. A good read! -Linda H., store volunteer

Ecco 6/12/2018. New hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. in Brand New jacket. Store pick: This is a thriller of the highest order. While the story and setting is unlike your typical action thriller, it is one that grabs hold of you and simply won't let go. For anyone who enjoys a Lee Child or Nelson DeMille read, this is one that should be on your 'must read' list. The pacing of the story and development of Rice Moore, the main character are such that you will have a hard time putting this one down. The book is less about plot twists and surprises than it is the gradual unfolding of a complex and compelling character who is both approachable and enigmatic. It is one of those that will leave you wishing for more when you finish it, and hoping that maybe we haven't heard the last of Rice Moore and his journey. I rate this one at the top of my scale: 5/5. -Brent B., store volunteer (seconded by Nancy M.) Signed by author.
