142 HART, JOHN REDEMPTION ROAD
Thomas Dunne Books 2017 1250132118 / 9781250132116 PAPERBACK .
Thomas Dunne Books 5/16/2017. New paperback. 2017 Southern Book Prize Thriller Winner. Store pick: John Hart’s newest novel, Redemption Road, is a thriller. Innocents are dying, people are being chased and tortured and the good guys are hard to tell from all of the bad. It is about Elizabeth Black, a decorated hero cop with a deep dark secret. But, in addition to being a thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout it is a compelling and very emotional story of love – love that is sick and twisted, love that is so blind it allows horrible things to be done in its name, love so hidden by guilt it is hard to see, love born out of despair and a love that is so pure and good it allows hope to shine through. It is obvious that John Hart has poured all of his heart and soul into this beautifully written story of sadness, despair, love and hope. -Nancy M., store volunteer (seconded by Jill Hendrix, store owner, and Melissa O., store employee) Signed by author.

148 HENDRICKS, GREER WIFE BETWEEN US

The writing is so convincing that you will naturally make certain assumptions. But, as the blurb for the book says you should assume absolutely nothing. I lost count of how many times I was totally surprised by what I thought I knew and even when the surprise ending was revealed there was still one last surprise. A story of love, deceit, betrayal and sickness--it is scary and troubling and stunning and amazing all rolled up into one of the best thrillers of the year. -Nancy M., store volunteer

152 HERRON, MICK LONDON RULES
Soho Press 2018 1616959614 / 9781616959616 First Edition, First Printing. HARDCOVER in Brand New jacket.
Soho Press 6/5/2018. New hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. in Brand New jacket. Store pick: OK, total disclosure - I've read every one of the Slough House novels by Mick Herron and eagerly look forward to each new installment. London Rules did not disappoint. Herron is the master of the spy novel that doesn't take itself too seriously, yet is engaging and suspenseful at the same time. His Jackson Lamb is the leader of a group of misfit spies and as far from James Bond as you can get as the poster child of political IN-correctness with his unique irascible, sardonic, cynical, acerbic (I could go on, but you get the picture) style. Yet somehow, you still find yourself firmly in his corner rooting for him and his atypical group to prevail not only against the bad guys, but against the political machine of British Intelligence. This one is a solid entertaining read that will keep you on your toes to the very end. --Brent B. Fiction Addiction

158 HUNTER, CARA CLOSE TO HOME
Penguin Books 2018 0143131052 / 9780143131052 PAPERBACK .
Penguin Books 3/6/2018. New paperback. Store pick: A child goes missing and DI Adam Fawley immediately starts to focus on the family or those close to home because when a child disappears the perpetrator is usually not a stranger. It becomes more and more likely that 8 yo Daisy Mason is dead. But which one of her family or acquaintances might be to blame? As the layers of this complicated and extremely dysfunctional family are peeled away you are soon convinced that one of them is definitely guilty, or deserves to be punished in some way. The mother, the father and the young brother are all suspect. The blame shifts… and shifts, until you are left with a surprise ending that will knock your socks off. Close to Home is an amazing story, very well written with great (if unlikeable) characters, a back story told exceptionally well, and a dramatic ending that will amaze and stun! This is the first in a series featuring DI Fawley and I can’t wait until the next installment. -Nancy M., store volunteer

159 JACKSON, JOSHILYN ALMOST SISTERS
William Morrow 2018 0062105728 / 9780062105721 PAPERBACK .
William Morrow 5/29/2018. New paperback. Store pick: Joshilyn Jackson uses smart, snappy dialogue that made me laugh outloud to tell a story of racism and prejudice in a small southern town that still exists today. It is also the story of step sisters who have been competitive since their parents married when they were both 3 years old, a story about loves lost and grief and childhood joys, and a story about a town matriarch who is slowly becoming a victim of dementia . All very serious subjects which are told with wit and humor throughout. I loved listening to Birchie finally getting to tell some of the townspeople what was really on her mind, I loved Leia’s story within a story – the graphic novel and characters that she created and who made her famous. I loved her interactions with her sister Rachel and with her niece Lavender. And, I especially loved the fact that there was even a mystery and legal battle thrown in. -Nancy M., store volunteer
