101 FINLEY, JEREMY DARKEST TIME OF NIGHT
St. Martin's Press 2018 1250147301 / 9781250147301 First Edition, First Printing. HARDCOVER in Brand New jacket.
St. Martin's Press 6/26/2018. New hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. in Brand New jacket. Store pick: When 4-year-old William disappears from the woods behind his house in Nashville, the only witness is his 7 yo brother who says ‘the lights took him’ and then refuses to speak again. William’s grandmother, Lynn Roseworth, the wife of a senator and potential VP candidate is afraid she knows what those words mean. They are a link to her past – a past she has never talked about with her family, and one she fears will destroy her entire family. The Darkest Time of Night is a truly remarkably written story. It is fast-paced and suspenseful … a thriller that is a combination of science fiction and government cover-up. Once you start, you can’t put this one down. A little bit scary, a whole lot heartrending; a complex plot, and many brave people make this a book that will make you question what might or might not actually exist. -Nancy M., store volunteer

We know she spends her days watching and rewatching old Hitchcock and other classic mystery films. We know Anna is separated from her husband and young daughter because of the same trauma – but she speaks with them almost every day. We know she drinks way too much, abuses the pills she has been prescribed and lies to her psychologist about drinking while she is taking pills. We know Anna met a woman from the house across the park. We know she has met the woman’s teen aged son and believes he is terrified of something. We know she saw the woman being murdered. We know the police detective and her psychiatrist believe she is hallucinating. But…in reality we really don't know anything! 110 FOX, CANDICE CRIMSON LAKE
Forge Books 2018 0765398486 / 9780765398482 First US Edition. HARDCOVER in Brand New jacket.
Forge Books 3/6/2018. New hardcover. First US Edition. in Brand New jacket. Store pick: Amanda Pharrell was convicted as a teenager of killing her teenaged friend. She is now out of prison and works as a private investigator in her home town. Ted Conkaffey spent 8 months in jail accused of the brutal attack and rape of a 13 year old girl. While the charges were dropped, no one else was arrested so the public still considers him guilty. These two misfits come together to try and find out what happened to a famous author who has gone missing and is thought to have been eaten by a crocodile. Crimson Lake is crime fiction at its best. It is about three intriguing crimes, past and present. It is about characters that are quirky, colorful, likable, but also very damaged. And it is about a small town in Australia that is itself disturbing and dangerous. It is a crook infested town, with small town cops who don’t believe in rules, and small town citizens who don’t forgive or forget. I understand this is going to become a series and I can’t wait for the next installment. -Nancy M., store volunteer Signed by author.

113 FREAR, CAZ SWEET LITTLE LIES
Harper 2018 0062823191 / 9780062823199 First US Edition. HARDCOVER in Brand New jacket.
Harper 8/14/2018. New hardcover. First US Edition. in Brand New jacket. Store pick: A woman’s body is found strangled in a garden in London. When the victim’s identity is discovered it throws Detective Catrina Kinsella’s life into a nightmare that she couldn’t have imagined. The victim, as it turned out, was actually someone that Cat had once known. She was someone who had disappeared from Ireland years earlier and was never seen again. While on vacation in Ireland with her family when she was 8, she witnessed her father give the then young girl a ride. Later when the girl disappeared Cat heard her father lie to the police about ever knowing her. Now, years later the woman’s body is found not far from where her father now lives and works in London. Was it coincidence or something far more sinister? Cat is flawed, she’s sassy-mouthed, she’s complex and deep-down, and she’s compassionate. But most of all she believes people should have to pay for their crimes. Sweet Little Lies is a debut mystery that really delivers. It is a dark story with a touch of humor and a wonderfully developed character who I would love to see again. -Nancy M. (seconded by Jackie W.)

Perhaps everyone struggles with tragedy, but maybe none more than the previously charmed individual. The book has a great cast of supporting characters that are extremely well developed. Any mystery or literary fan will enjoy this book. -Jackie W., store volunteer

116 GANSHERT, KATIE NO ONE EVER ASKED
Waterbrook Press 2018 1601429045 / 9781601429049 PAPERBACK .
Waterbrook Press 4/3/2018. New paperback. Store pick: This book is a raw story of integration - years after it was supposedly complete. So well told from both sides of the dividing line that you feel the hurt and fear. The saddest part of this book is how well it exemplifies so many parts of our country. The struggle for the marginalized is real and current and represented so well you will be horrified. The haves are put to the test to see just how generous and kind they really are. A perfect read for our times. -Jackie W., store volunteer

The year seems to start off on a positive note when Lily meets Dunkin. But Dunkin has his own issues, and it turns out he'd rather get in with the popular crowd than swap secrets with a boy at the bottom of the middle school food chain. This book takes the usual middle school themes and puts gender identity and bipolar disorder in the mix with two special characters who want nothing more than to be accepted for who they are. -Melissa O., store employee
